The pictures below are from the Farmers Market on Columbus Avenue near 79th Street, but there are lots of markets around the city.





Kevin, one of the Union Square farmers, told us all about how garlic grows. And he also demonstrated the willingness of the farmers market vendors to drop everything and educate the public on all things agriculture.
Many of the seniors broke off pieces of the garlic leaves and sampled them right on the spot.
Nathan checked out the little red worms that are used to turn food scraps into soil. Claire kept her distance.
We found a kosher vendor:
A happy coda to the trip: Max went home and cooked a nice meal using exclusively farmers market ingredients purchased today.

Sampling some spicy arugula. We learned that the recent dry weather intensified the flavor of the arugula.
